About Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coins
The Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf is a beautiful coin designed and produced by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM). Minted using the highest quality techniques, boasting a 99.95% pure platinum, and featuring an exquisite design, the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf coin is one the world’s most successful bullion products on the market.
History of the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf
First minted in 1988, the Canadian Platinum Maple leaf coin was an evolution of the RCM’s gold coins originally produced in 1979. The Maple Leaf gold collection proved so popular with investors and collectors that executives took the decision to diversify their product range with silver and platinum coins in the same year.
The platinum coins have face values ranging between of 50 Canadian dollars and 1 dollar. These various denominations were produced to attract investors of all budgets. The price of platinum during the coin’s periods of production varied considerably. The RCM’s decision to mint the Platinum Maple Leaf in such an accessible range added to the coin’s desirability among investors.
The obverse of the coin carries the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II across three periods of her reign. As Canada is a Commonwealth nation, Queen Elizabeth II has been the country’s head of state since 1952.
Starting in 1988, Her Majesty’s portrait was designed by Arnold Machin. Between 1990 and 2003, the coins carried a profile by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Its 2003 edition shows the work of RCM engraver Susanna Blunt.
The Platinum Maple Leaf was taken out of production in 2002 after a drop in the value of the precious metal. However, by 2009 its value had more than recovered, and the RCM produced a new edition, complete with Susanna Blunt’s 2003 depiction of Her Majesty on the obverse side.
As these three portrayals of the head of state represent different periods in the Royal Canadian Mint’s history, editions of the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf differ in value accordingly. In conjunction with the five face values of the coin, this gives investors a huge range of choice. A unique collector’s item and investment opportunity, the platinum edition of the Maple Leaf coin is one of the most sought after bullion coins on the market.

Liquidity is obviously very important for investors. With its exceptional range of face values and time span, the Platinum Maple Leaf coin is both a stable asset that promises to accrue a positive store of wealth. The quality of the platinum bullion guarantees a growth in investment.
